Exhibition at the Stapferhaus Lenzburg (April 2026)
At the Stapferhaus in Lenzburg, the PHRT exhibition «Engineering the Future of Health» merged scientific innovation with creative storytelling to imagine healthcare in the year 2047. In the exhibition gallery, visitors explored artifacts, art prints, texts, videos, and an audio guide showcasing 14 pioneering DeepHealth projects, including some of MML's work.
A highlight of the event was the screening of «A Survivor Looks Back», a futuristic short film produced by Oscar-winner Christina Schmidlin. Developed alongside researchers and a patient's family, the story follows a boy born with a severe genetic condition who, thanks to innovative research and the University Children's Hospital Zurich (Kinderspital Zürich), lives a nearly symptom-free life in 2047. Afterwards, curator Adrian Notz co-moderated a panel with Prof. Schürle and fellow researchers to discuss the film, the exhibition, and future scenarios in the life sciences. Concluding with an apéro, the evening offered an inspiring look at the future of biomedical innovation.
The flux under your skin (September - November 2023)
Researchers are investigating whether bacteria can be used as drug carriers and targeted in the bloodstream with the help of a magnetic field. Could bacteria help to fight cancer cells in this way? The exhibition ‘The flux under your skin’ by the artist Prof Susanne Winterling in collaboration with the RBSL takes an artistic approach to this question. In an environment of 37 degrees, our body temperature, visitors feel the heat – energy – that nurtures us and all life inside us, while they walk through a visual installation of dense cancer tissue. The energy enables the growth of cells and bacteria in our body and their exchange with each other. This exchange can be influenced by magnetic fields, which visitors can experience in an interactive simulation.
